Colman Playground

Colman Playground is located in the Rainier Heights neighborhood at 1740 23rd Ave S, 98144. It is 2.8 acres in size.

Olmsted Brothers’ 1903 Comprehensive Plan recommended building independent playgrounds in addition to an interconnected park and parkway system.  They urged the city to secure land “where there are opportunities for playgrounds.” In June of 1909, the city closed negotiations to purchase a site, “located on the summit of the slightly ridge” in the block south of the newly built Colman elementary school, to be developed as a playfield.
