FSOP Annual Meeting – September 28th

September 28, 2013 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Each September, FSOP holds our annual meeting in an Olmsted park following a walking tour. This year we are going to have a potluck lunch at noon on September 28th, in the overlook shelter that has recently been restored as part of the Pacific Connections garden project. The meeting will follow the morning tour, starting at 10:00 a.m., of the newly installed New Zealand Focal Forest. At noon we will gather at the overlook shelter (Google map) for lunch and a short business meeting.

One item of business will be the election of our new board members. We are excited to welcome Ann Hunt and Penny Kriese to our board. Ann is the horticulturist at Chateau Ste Michelle winery in Woodinville. She has been involved in the winery’s Archive Committee to preserve and present the history of both the winery and the estate on which the winery exists, and the Grounds Committee to oversee the future of the historic property. She oversees the maintenance of the grounds and has written brochures about the estate grounds and plants and created a walking tour for the grounds. In her work she combines sustainable and green practices with preservation of the historic legacy. She is looking forward to helping us protect and augment Seattle’s Olmsted legacy.

Penny moved to the Seattle area in the summer of 2010 from northern Virginia where served for six years as a Tree Steward for Alexandria-Arlington, a public outreach and tree educational program, and was employed as a project manager and website editor at the Department of Labor. Penny and completed a graduate certification program in Landscape Design at George Washington University. Once in Seattle, Penny joined the King County Master Gardeners and currently serves on the Master Gardener Foundation Board as the Communications Committee Chair and as a member of the Finance Committee. She became a Seattle Tree Ambassadors for Green Lake – Wallingford in 2011 to educate residents about the urban canopy with neighborhood outreach and educational activities. As a Tree Ambassador she developed an interactive walking map of Green Lake trees in 2012. She has helped produce additional tree walks for Seattle Center, Eastlake, Northeast Seattle, and a children’s tree walk for the Woodland Park Zoo, and leads tree walks for the Tree Ambassador program. She is interested in developing new walking tours for FSOP.

Please bring a lunch item to share and, if possible, a chair (seating is limited at the outlook shelter).

The annual meeting will be held at the shelter labeled “Lookout Gazebo” on this map.
